Welcome to the Web Page of the Fourteenth Judicial District Bar, the mandatory bar organization for attorneys who live or work in Durham County, North Carolina. This is also the Page for the Durham County Bar Association (DCBA), the voluntary organization for attorneys in Durham County, and the Durham Bar Foundation. 


Winter/Spring 2017 Durham County Bar Association Updates

 Happy New Year! We are pleased to invite you to the following Durham County Bar Association Members-Only spring season events. 

January DCBA Luncheon
Wednesday, January 18 at 12:30 at The Durham Convention Center 

SPEAKER TOPIC: 1-hour Ethics CLE: Sylvia Novinsky, Director, North Carolina Pro Bono Resource Center will present "Increasing Pro Bono Participation," for one hour of credit. The idea here is to allow those who can not attend the two hour Feb. 2 Ethics Challenge to pick up the first of a different two hour block. The second hour will be taught Friday Feb. 3 at 1 PM by Alan Parry, and is a Settlement/ Mediation Ethics hour.

Durham County Bar Association members can obtain up to 13 hours of CLE credit (pending) across two days: 8 hours on Thursday and five on Friday. There is no fee for paid DCBA members to attend the event, however, participants must pay the $3.50 fee to the NC Board of CLE for each hour obtained. Area attorneys may join the DCBA at any time. Those licensed in 2016 may pay $60, dues for all others are $125.

If you need to pay DCBA dues in order to participate, you may pay dues from the front page web site link entitled "proceed to the payment form," or send your check for $125 ($60 for those first licensed in 2014) to the DCBA, PO Box 593, Durham, NC 27702, prior to February 2.  

Please email questions to the DCBA’s Executive Director, Bonnie Biggs, who will serve as the event’s Registrar, at info@durhambar.org. If you have already or plan to email the Executive Director regarding dues status or payments, those replies will be complete by the end of this week. 

Please mark these events on your calendars, which are open to all members of the Fourteenth Judicial District Bar and DCBA.

Thursday March 9, 2017, 12:00 Noon, in the Attorneys' Lounge at the Durham County Courthouse, room 3600 (OR other designated location in the building), featuring the ACC Tournament on TV!

Lunch on the Patio at Tobacco Road Sports Cafe 
Wednesday, April 26 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Baseball game starts at 10:35 a.m.

  The Durham Docket

 The Durham Docket is the electronic newsletter of the Fourteenth and DCBA. Click here for the January 2017 issue.  It is emailed to all members of the Fourteenth and DCBA via this web site's membership roster. A very limited number of print copies are mailed/faxed. The Docket contains schedules and calendars for the Fourteenth and DCBA, as well as important notices from the judiciary and NC State Bar. The Docket is published from September through June, with no edition in July or August.
